TC4 titanium tubes have the following various applications in the medical field:

1. Artificial Joints

• Hip Joint Replacement: TC4 titanium tubes can be used to manufacture the stems of hip joint prostheses. With high strength and good corrosion resistance, they can withstand various complex stresses generated by daily human activities, such as the pressure and friction caused by actions like walking, running, and going up and down stairs. Moreover, titanium alloy has excellent biocompatibility with human tissues. After being implanted into the human body, the surrounding tissues can adhere and grow well with it, reducing complications caused by rejection reactions.

• Knee Joint Replacement: In knee joint prostheses, TC4 titanium tubes can be used to fabricate key structural components such as the condyles. The elastic modulus of this material is relatively close to that of human bones, which can effectively avoid the stress shielding effect. Stress shielding refers to the situation where the elastic modulus of an implant is much higher than that of human bones, resulting in reduced stress on the bones and problems like osteoporosis. The use of TC4 titanium tubes helps to provide good support while maintaining the normal physiological functions of the bones.

2. Dental Implants

• Dental Implant Abutments: TC4 titanium tubes can be used as the abutment parts of dental implants. The oral environment is complex, full of various microorganisms and acidic substances, imposing high requirements on the corrosion resistance of materials. TC4 titanium tubes can resist corrosion in the oral cavity and provide stable support for dental crowns. Meanwhile, their good biocompatibility is conducive to the attachment of gingival tissues and alveolar bones, promoting osseointegration between the implant and the surrounding tissues and ensuring the long-term stability of dental implants.

3. Medical Device Housings

• Implantable Medical Devices: For some implantable medical devices, such as pacemakers and insulin pumps, TC4 titanium tubes can be used to make their housings. This is because they have good sealing properties and biological safety, which can prevent the intrusion of body fluids and protect the normal operation of internal electronic components. Meanwhile, their lightweight feature also reduces the burden on patients and improves the comfort of use.

• External Medical Devices: In terms of external medical devices, such as the housings of medical diagnostic equipment and the handles of surgical instruments, TC4 titanium tubes can provide solid protection. Their corrosion resistance ensures that the housings will not be corroded and damaged during frequent disinfection and cleaning processes, thus prolonging the service life of medical devices.

4. Medical Stents

• Vascular Stents: TC4 titanium tubes can be processed into vascular stents. In vascular interventional therapy, stents need to have good flexibility and radial support force. TC4 titanium tubes can meet these requirements through appropriate processing techniques. They can expand narrowed or blocked blood vessels and restore blood flow. Moreover, the anti-coagulation performance of titanium alloy is relatively good, which helps to reduce the risk of thrombosis and improve the safety and effectiveness of treatment.

• Non-vascular Stents such as Tracheal Stents and Esophageal Stents: When stenosis occurs in the trachea or esophagus, stents made of TC4 titanium tubes can help maintain the patency of the lumen. Their good biocompatibility and corrosion resistance enable the stents to play a long-term role in the human body while reducing the foreign body sensation of patients.
